Maternity FAQ

When should I book my maternity session?

Many clients reserve their maternity shoot in the later part of their first trimester or early part of their second trimester to ensure a spot- my schedule can fill up a couple of months in advance. If you're already later in your pregnancy and just found us, don't worry! I will do my best to accommodate you if my calendar allows. Booking early simply gives us more flexibility to plan for the session.

How far along should I be for maternity photos?

The ideal time for a maternity session is around 28-32 weeks of pregnancy. For most women, this is the sweet spot where your belly is nicely round and pronounced, but you're not yet at the point of feeling overly uncomfortable- swelling usually comes during the last trimester. Of course, every pregnancy is different.

Do you travel for photoshoots?

I offer both in-studio and on-location options for maternity portraits. In-studio sessions take place in my studio location on my family's property. If you envision an outdoor shoot, I can find a location that best fits your vision or we can use a location that you love. Approval must be given to us to use locations that are not owned by us or is not considered public property. If a fee is required to use a location, that will be added into the session cost. Travel fees may apply for distant locations. If the weather doesn't cooperate on the day of an outdoor session, don't worry- I have a rescheduling plan for weather issues. We could also pivot to a studio session if needed.

What should I wear?

One of the perks of my services is that I offer a curated client wardrobe, including a selection of gorgeous maternity gowns, dresses, fabrics, or other pieces for you to use. A selection of items will be pulled based on the pre-session planning questionnaire, however if you see something you just got to wear at the time of your session, we can definitely pull it too. The goal is to get you in something that makes you feel confident and beautiful- even if that is just your bare skin.

Do you offer hair and makeup for maternity sessions?

While I do not have in-house hair/makeup artists, I strongly recommend pampering yourself with professional hair and makeup before your session. Many moms-to-be treat it as a fun excuse to get glammed up (you deserve it!). If you choose to do it on your own, that's perfectly fine too- just aim for a slightly heavier application than everyday to show up well on camera.

But I'm not a model, I don't know how to pose!

OH I LOVE IT WHEN I HEAR THIS! Posing is fully guided- from the top of your head to the tip of your toe (literally). I tailor the session to your comfort level and style. I'll guide you through a variety of poses that flatter your bump and body. My goal is that you enjoy the experience- and for you to see how BEAUTIFUL you are (especially when most moms-to-be don't feel that way). This is a moment that you and your little one will want to look back on- the moment before they were born!
